ASIC wanted two eLearning modules as part of its induction course – Security Awareness and Classification of Information.
The aim was to provide an introduction to ASIC’s security practices to new employees, and to provide a annual refresher for established staff, covering important staff obligations within ASIC. Given the crucial nature of the content – and that the modules were to be an annual refresher – engagement was key. But there was a lot of content, it was pretty dry, and had a lot of detail. It was also clear that the fine details were really essential for staff to understand how to stay within the security requirements.
As project learning lead, my solution was to distill the subject matter down to core business. It also needed a clean design – using icons, flowcharts and graphs to visualise written content wherever possible, and included the use of animated gifs to illustrate key concepts. After workshopping ideas with the client, we included practical, scenario-based examples for every topic. This made it possible for new starters to visualise their work context and consider how the training applied to practical applications.
